How to Increase the Power of Your Voice
If you want to increase the power of your voice, one of the secrets is resonance. A powerful voice is one that resonates freely in your whole body. The following simple exercise will help you to improve the power and resonance of your voice.

Step 1Find a space where you feel safe and comfortable, and where you will be free from distractions. Choose a position for your body that allows you to be aware of your whole body and to focus inward. You can try this exercise sitting, standing or lying down.

Step 2Breathe deeply and imagine your breath filling your entire body. Feel the aliveness in your body, as if you are aware of your cells moving and vibrating. Be particularly aware of your bones. Sound resonates most powerfully in the bones.

Step 3Focus your awareness at the base of your spine. Direct your breath awareness to this specific physical location. Notice the aliveness. Make a sustained tone "oooo" (as in "food") with your voice and direct the sound into your tailbone, as if you could make your tailbone buzz. Continue making the "oooo" sound several more times and feel the warmth and buzziness expand. You are opening the resonance at the base of your spine.

Step 4Repeat this process in other areas of your body. For example, move to your pelvic bowl, then to your solar plexus (middle torso), then to your chest. If you like, you can try different vowel sounds in each location. For example, "oooh" (as in "go") is wonderful for opening the resonance in the pelvic area, and "aaah" (as in "ma") is wonderful for opening the resonance in the chest. Explore the sensations that you can create with your sound. Take time in each area to give yourself an internal massage. Be aware of how the sound buzzes in your bones.

Step 5To open the resonance in your head, find a humming sound in a comfortable range for your voice, and focus the humming sound in the space between your eyes. Feel the buzzing in the bones around your eyes. Expand the vibration to your ears and jaw and skull. Massage your brain. Bring your entire head alive with the sound.

Step 6Continuing your humming sound, now open your mouth and change to a sustained "aaaah" sound, while still feeling the buzzing sensations in your head. Allow the resonance to extend from your head down through your whole body. Notice if you can touch all of the places that you have explored with your sound. Feel the buzzing in your entire body.

Step 7Finally, speak or sing a sentence or phrase with your new-found awareness of whole-body resonance. Does your voice feel more powerful? The more you practice, the more you will notice an increase in the power of your voice.
